A rundown of WBT event on Kentucky Lake

CELEBRATION, Fla. — After enjoying record-breaking weights during the first three tournaments of the 2007 Mercury Marine Women's Bassmaster Tour presented by Triton Boats season, the top women's circuit should see the impressive weights continue during a visit to Kentucky Lake on June 14-16. It is the fourth of five venues on the WBT Tour.

What's at stake
$88,940 in cash and merchandise to the top 25 pros and points toward qualifying for the Women's Bassmaster Tour Championship and winning the Toyota Women's Bassmaster Tour Angler of the Year title. The top 25 co-anglers compete for $47,040 in cash and merchandise.

The Pros Said It
"The fish are there to catch. It just depends on how you prefer to catch them. I am currently running four different patterns but have found most of my success in shallow water. It's imperative to fill up your limit early and then try to upgrade your weight through the remainder of the day when you are fishing on Kentucky Lake."
— Angie Douthit, 41, Clewiston, Fla.

"I have heard that everyone is catching a lot of fish. But to do well here, you need to get those big bites. The fish are in a post-spawn mode and they are feeding on the shad population. In practice, I have been moving around to a number of different areas, as choosing water is very important during this stage. I have found a few productive areas and I think I have enough fish to last."
— Sheri Glasgow, 40, Muskogee, Okla., first in the Toyota Women's Bassmaster Tour Angler of the Year standings

"I hate to jinx myself, but I think I stumbled on to something productive. I think most of the field is fishing deep but I have found some bites in the shallow water. The fish are holding in specific structure in the shallows, and once you find the right areas you can really catch them. I caught a 4-pounder and 3-pounder on consecutive casts."
— Debra Hengst, 47, San Antonio

The Strategy
Douthit: The Florida angler has worked crankbaits around the edges of creeks as well as Carolina rigs around humps and stumps with grass. She feels that water choice is more important than lure selection on Kentucky, and though the fishing has been somewhat "tough", she feels that the winning weight in the three-day competition will be 45 to 50 pounds.

Glasgow: The Toyota Women's Bassmaster Angler of the Year leader has established that the fish are in a post-spawn stage. The Oklahoma pro said the fish are "ganged up," and once she gets a bite she will continue working an area. She is looking to increase her margin in the points race and predicts that to finish in the top 25 in the standings of this event she will need more than 30 pounds of weight over three days.

Hengst: The Texan is confident in her chances at this tournament. She feels that she has an advantage because her focus will be on shallow water while much of the field is fishing dep. However, she has developed somewhat of a deep-water bite as a backup plan. She predicts that the winner will post a total weight of 55 to 60 pounds.

The daily launches at Kentucky Dam Village will begin at 5:30 a.m. ET. Daily weigh-ins will begin at 2:15 p.m.

The local sponsor of the event is the Kentucky Sports Authority.
