Cheney, Wash., is a small college town in the middle of nowhere, about 270 miles east of Seattle. In other words, it's the perfect spot to hold an NFL training camp. It's also the first stop on Jim Caple's 17-day sporting trek on Interstate 90. Our man pulled off the road to visit with some NFL players who are less-than-happy campers.

The Lakers will still have Shaq and Kobe, but the three-time champs will have some giant shoes to fill next season. Page 2 cartoonist Kurt Snibbe looks at the void left by the death of longtime Lakers broadcaster Chick Hearn, while columnist Eric Neel reflected last season on what Hearn meant to the people of Southern California.

The Power Poll Mystery Photo
Pedro looks like the Pedro of old. The Atlanta Braves look like the same outfit that dominated the '90s. And Steve Spurrier looks like the same ol' genius in the NFL. So, who looks like they should be No. 1 in this week's Page 2 Power Poll? You'll have to look to find out.

10]  Blue Jays send David Cone to Yankees for pitchers Marty Janzsen, Jason Jarvis and Mike Gordon (July 28, 1995)
The Yankees' most recent dynasty began in 1995, and Cone was a key ingredient in the Pinstripers 1995 playoff push.
9]  Reds send Hank Sauer and Frankie Baumholtz to Cubs for Harry "Peanuts" Lowrey and Harry "The Hat" Walker (June 15, 1949)
The Cubs were awful in 1949, but a third of the way through the season they did something right, sending Lowrey and Walker to Cincinnati in exchange for outfielders Sauer and Baumholtz.
8]  Mariners trade Randy Johnson to Astros for Freddy Garcia, Carlos Guillen and John Halama (July 31, 1998)
Mariners fans and players were furious about the trade -- all they got in return for the ace of aces were three minor-leaguers. But Mariners GM Woody Woodward looked pretty smart, in retrospect.
