Fran Fraschilla's analysis

No. 1 seed ACC
Coach: Dean Smith

Offense: This is an excellent transition team with Price pushing the ball and Sampson runs unusually well for someone his size. Jordan and Bias will be "murder" on the wings. In the half-court offense, Laettner is a versatile inside-out big man who will complement Sampson well. Price will take the heat off any double-teams because of his great shooting ability and, at the end of the shot clock, Smith can give it to you-know-who.

Defense: Will play "multiple defenses" with this team as Smith has the 7-4 Sampson as the "goaltender" in any of his full-court presses and in the middle of the "point" zone he likes to utilize. Jordan and Bias will be especially tough defending the wing positions.

Intangibles: How about college basketball's winningest coach of all time and the NBA's best all-time player AND competitor?

No. 8 seed: Atlantic 10
Coach: John Chaney

Offense: Nice Philly flavor in the backcourt. Nelson and Macon will have the ball in their hands 80 percent of the time. Roe, Camby, and West understand that a shot taken by the guards is a pass to them on the offensive glass.

Defense: Of course, Chaney will implement the vaunted Temple match-up zone which will drive the opponent nuts.

Intangibles: John Calipari agrees to be Chaney's top assistant. They have long since patched up their differences. Calipari will handle the postgame press conferences.
