Decision 2000: Page 2 goes to polls
ESPN.com

It's Election Day, and the polls are open at Page 2.

Here's the next race on our ballot:

Position: Secretary of Treasury
Job requirements: Prudence and skill at handling large budgets without running up huge deficits. Ability to gauge economic conditions.

The Candidates:

Allen
Paul Allen
Age: 47     Day job: Owner, Portland Trail Blazers and Seattle Seahawks
Pro: Billionaire co-founder of Microsoft is worth more than most Third World countries.
Con: Number of championships the Blazers and Seahawks have won with his big bucks: zero.

Cuban
Mark Cuban
Age: 42     Day job: Owner, Dallas Mavericks, and Internet entrepreneur
Pro: Marches to the beat of a different drummer.
Con: His drummer is an overcaffienated Keith Moon on speed at the symphony. Can you trust the judgment of someone who used his wealth to buy the Mavericks?

Rodriguez
Alex Rodriguez
Age: 25     Day job: Free-agent shortstop
Pro: Ability to squeeze every possible cent out of some deep-pocketed baseball owner will translate well into trade negotiations.
Con: Connection with Scott Boras makes his nice-guy image questionable.

Steinbrenner
George Steinbrenner
Age: 70     Day job: Managing general partner, New York Yankees, New Jersey Nets, New Jersey Devils
Pro: Knows how to get results and make a lot of money without spending much of his own cash.
Con: How can you trade a young prospect like Jay Buhner for Ken Phelps? Buhner hits home runs. He has a rocket for an arm. (We don't care if Steinbrenner's baseball people said, "Ken Phelps, Ken Phelps.")

Stern
David Stern
Age: 58     Day job: NBA commissioner
Pro: Transformed NBA from second-rate U.S. league into global behemoth.
Con: Hasn't shown he can be as successful without Michael Jordan.
