Jesse Spector, 20, and some friends began the "Buy the Expos" campaign more than two weeks ago, and as of last week had received more than $100,000 in pledges. Their goal is to reach $100 million, the price MLB paid former owner Jeffrey Loria for Montreal's lease and the option to fold.
Randy Winn
Randy Winn, who played college basketball at Santa Clara in the early 1990s, was picked randomly to take part in a promotion between quarters at a recent Clippers game at the Staples Center. "I figured I'd just go out there and miss the shot," Winn said. "I just wanted to hit the backboard. I didn't want to miss everything." But Winn banked in his half-court shot and won a Mitsubishi Lancer.

After Tuesday's game at Houston, the Clippers are off until Saturday. But if Darius Miles decides to go to the Grammys on Wednesday, he won't be performing.

Nick Carter
Backstreet Boy Nick Carter, 22, bought a 43-foot offshore racing boat and intends to enter it in the American Power Boat Association's 2002 circuit. Carter, who was once fined for running his boat aground into a preserved area, will leave the piloting up to his father, Bob. Other celebrities, such as Jason Priestley, have competed in the sport.
