What the heck was Joe Torre thinking when George Steinbrenner guaranteed recently that the Yankees would win the AL East and said he had given Torre "everything he wanted" in the way of players and coaches?

	"I don't recall asking to have my four rings in seven years questioned."

A. "He isn't telling the whole truth and nothing but the truth. I still don't have that pony I asked for."

B. "I think the Boss has been hanging out with Glen Sather too much."

C. "Looking back on it, maybe I should've asked George for more than just DSL in my office and some fresh green tea."

D. "Damn it! I said 'one ace will do.' Not 'Juan Acevedo.'"

E. "He can 'guarantee' all he wants. In my book, the only guarantees in life are death, taxes and Zimmer's hemorrhoids."
