In 2009, Brock Parker won two bracelets in four days. In 2014, he came close to doing the same. Days after a fifth-place finish in Event 7, Parker outlasted a talent-filled field of 178 to capture his third career bracelet and a $443,407 payday. Parker has 34 career WSOP cashes and has emerged as an early contender in the 2014 WSOP Player of the Year race.
"There are a lot of Omaha-8 specialists," Parker said to Bluff about the field. "It was interesting."
Parker entered the final table eighth in chips, staring at the dominating stacks of bracelet-winner Richard Ashby and Shirley Rosario at the top. By the time Dan Kelly fell in ninth, Parker had already chipped up to the middle of the pack and waited for his one big moment to strike. That opportunity came during six-handed play when Parker hit the nut flush and nut low to scoop a huge pot against Viatcheslav Ortynskiy and Rosario. Parker still trailed Ashby, but he had put himself in position to battle for the win.
The mixed-game expert Rosario went out in fourth, securing her largest career cash of $146,522, and left Ashby, Parker and Ofir Mor to compete for the bracelet. Parker took the lead three-handed and held that slight advantage to enter heads-up after Ashby eliminated Mor in third. The two bracelet winners faced off and traded the chip lead early. Once Parker regained control of the top stack, he never let it go and it was only a matter of time until Ashby was down to a few bets and was ultimately eliminated.
