Spoiler alert: This week's top five is all about, well, spoilers.
By that I mean teams that aren't expected by many -- really any -- to make a BCS run, but can still have a huge impact on the matchups we'll see in the five biggest games four months from now, particularly the BCS Championship Game in Miami on Jan. 8.
These teams all have schedules that intersect with multiple national-title hopefuls. Just one win against one of these would-be national champions would create issues (see: Iowa State 37, Oklahoma State 31). Two or more upsets by one of our apple cart-tippers would cause total chaos.
So who has pieced together a 2012 schedule that feels ripe for poll-wrecking? Here are our top five candidates.
Wrecking-ball games: 9/3 at Virginia Tech, 10/6 at Clemson, 11/24 at Georgia
The Rambling Wreck has three potential wrecking-ball games, starting with their Labor Day season opener at Virginia Tech. The Hokies are ranked 16th in the AP preseason poll, but many are already pointing to VT as a possible BCS sleeper, poised to make its annual march up the charts. But GT is 3-6 against the Hokies, and three of the last four contests have come down to the closing minutes.
