NASCAR suspends 6 for windshields

CONCORD, N.C. -- NASCAR has issued four-week suspensions to the crew chiefs and car chiefs for Martin Truex Jr., David Reutimann and Bobby Labonte.

Chad Johnston, Rodney Childers and Frank Kerr also were fined $50,000 each, and the drivers docked 25 points apiece. The penalties are from illegal windshields discovered during Friday inspection at Talladega Superspeedway. NASCAR says they did not have the appropriate thickness.

Michael Waltrip Racing, which employs Childers and Johnston, said in a statement they will not appeal.

"We do not condone this type of activity and as such we will take appropriate internal corrective action immediately," the statement said. "We thank NASCAR for providing a fair and equitable platform for all of its competitors and respect its decisions."

Also suspended were car chiefs Steve Channing, Raymond Fox and Anthony Lunders.

JTG Daugherty Racing said they were "very disappointed" in a team statement and also said they would not appeal.

The windshields were never used in competition.
