Tony Stewart keys big Dover crash
DOVER, Del. -- A multicar crash on Lap 9 of the Sprint Cup race at Dover International Speedway brought out a 20-minute red flag in the biggest accident of the season.
No one was injured in the incident.
Officially, 12 cars were part of the crash that started on the exit of Turn 2 into the backstretch of the 1-mile concrete oval.
A split second later, Regan Smith's car ran into the side of Stewart's Chevrolet, which caused both those cars to spin to start a chain reaction of wrecking cars behind them.
The track was blocked with mangled race cars, forcing NASCAR to throw a red flag and stop the race until all the cars could be cleared.
Some fans had complained recently about the lack of cautions and the lack of on-track action in many races this season.
