JJ to run Nationwide race in Phoenix
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Five-time Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson will compete in the March 2 Nationwide Series race at Phoenix for JR Motorsports.
Johnson will drive the No. 5 Chevrolet for the organization co-owned by Hendrick Motorsports teammate Dale Earnhardt Jr.. It will be his first time in a Nationwide car since finishing second in a JRM car at Watkins Glen in 2011.
"I appreciate Junior letting me run one of his cars,'' Johnson said in a team release. "My goal is to make my team owner so proud that, perhaps, he'll invite me back more often than once every two years.''
Johnson has driven in 92 NW races with one victory -- Chicagoland Speedway in 2001.
