No injuries in fire at Joe Gibbs Racing
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- For the second time in a year, a fire broke out at Joe Gibbs Racing.
A team spokesman said Tuesday's fire was contained to the machine shop when a piece of equipment burst into flames. Several employees were treated for smoke inhalation but none were transported to a hospital.
All employees returned to work within an hour to continue preparations for the 2012 NASCAR season.
The fire occurred almost a year from the Feb. 4, 2011 incident in the dyno testing room of the Huntersville, N.C. shop. No injuries were reported, but the fire did what team officials said was significant damage to the engine department.
That incident was described as an explosion during a routine test on one of two engine dynamometers, a machine used to measure power and performance of an engine under the strain of race conditions.
