Ryan Pemberton to start new job
JOLIET, Ill. -- Ryan Pemberton will begin his new role as competition director at JR Motorsports beginning Monday.
Pemberton will replace Tony Eury Sr., who last week agreed to part ways with the Nationwide Series organization co-owned by his nephew, Dale Earnhardt Jr.
"He's going to help Kelley [Earnhardt Miller] with some ideas on what direction we can go in to get better,'' Earnhardt said.
Pemberton is the brother of Robin Pemberton, NASCAR's vice president of competition. Ryan began his NASCAR career as a mechanic at Roush Fenway Racing in 1988. He was a crew chief at Red Bull Racing before that organization folded after last season.
JRM hasn't won a race since Sept. 4, 2010. Earnhardt said it was decided last week that the company needed to go in a different direction to win races.
