Watch Morgan Lucas at Brainerd

Before every event of the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, ESPN analyst Mike Dunn will rank the top five drivers -- and riders on weekends the Pro Stock Motorcycle crew competes -- in each class. Up this week? The Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway in Brainerd, Minn.

Top Fuel

1. Morgan Lucas
2. Shawn Langdon
3. David Grubnic
4. Tony Schumacher
5. Doug Kalitta

It's nice to be able to put Lucas No. 1 with all of the struggles the team has had this year. It's not just that he is the defending event winner at his dad's race (although that helps) -- they really have put up consistent numbers in reaching the past two finals on the tour.

Funny Car

1. Matt Hagan
2. Robert Hight
3. Ron Capps
4. John Force
5. Courtney Force

Ranked drivers were shut out of the Funny Car final in Seattle, but I stand by the choices because the two ranked drivers in the semis lost on a holeshot and a red light. That shows why Funny Car is the toughest to predict, and it really has to do with the amount of outstanding cars in the category.

Pro Stock

1. Vincent Nobile
2. Jeg Coughlin
3. Mike Edwards
4. Allen Johnson
5. Erica Enders-Stevens

Even though Nobile won the past two races, that is not the main reason he is at the top of the rankings. From a performance standpoint his numbers make him just a top-five car, but he has Roy Johnson horsepower, and when you look at all of the numbers you can see that the team has steadily been making better setup calls. And of course his driving doesn't hurt. Coughlin has won here four times and Enders-Stevens will be back and is the defending event champion, which get them in the rankings.
