ST. LOUIS -- Ryan Villopoto raced to his fifth victory in the first nine AMA Supercross events of the season, holding off Ryan Dungey on Saturday night in front of 59,742 fans at Edward Jones Dome.
Villopoto, the Kawasaki star from Poulsbo, Wash., has a 13-point lead over Dungey in the season standings.
"The track was tough tonight," Villopoto said. "I tried to ride smart and consistent, paying attention to where Dungey was at. I was able to hold on for another win and my first-ever in St. Louis"
Dungey, from Belle Plaine, Minn., has one victory this season on his KTM.
"It was tough to make passes out there," Dungey said. "I am happy with second tonight even though I wasn't able to get to the lead. This track is one of a kind, and I had a blast riding on it."
Earlier, Honda's Justin Barcia, from Ochlocknee, Ga., raced to his third consecutive Eastern Regional Supercross Lites Class victory to extend his points lead to 18.
"It was great to get the holeshot and check out tonight," Barcia said. "The dirt here in St. Louis is amazing. I am not changing anything as we head to the next race. If I keep doing this, I should win the championship."
