Valentino Rossi returns to win column

ASSEN, Netherlands -- Six-time MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi won his first race since 2010, finishing first at the Assen TT on Saturday ahead of Marc Marquez and Cal Crutchlow.

Rossi's Yamaha teammate Jorge Lorenzo, the defending MotoGP champion, finished fifth despite racing with a broken left collarbone sustained just two days ago in a high-speed crash during practice. Rossi underwent surgery on Friday in which the bone was fixed in place with a titanium plate and eight screws.

Dani Pedrosa finished fourth and remains atop the general standings, but he gained little ground on Lorenzo, who remains second overall.
