LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. -- Ryan Villopoto finished off his Lucas Oil Pro Motocross championship season with another victory, sweeping the 450 Class motos Saturday in the Lake Elsinore National.
Villopoto, the Monster Energy Kawasaki star from Poulsbo, Wash., had eight victories in 12 rounds this year and won 18 of 24 motos en route to his second season title in three years.
"With the great team that I have behind me, we were really able to turn the ship and go in the right direction with tuning the bike this season," Villopoto said.
Villopoto is scheduled to have knee surgery during the offseason.
"We'll be back on the bike before you know it and we'll be focused on the prep for Supercross," Villopoto said. "We'll go to the Monster Energy Cup to see where we're at and what we need to work on and after that A1 (the first round) will be right around the corner."
Ryan Dungey, the 2012 champion, was second in both motos in 100-degree heat.
Season champion Eli Tomac won the 250 Class event for his seventh victory of the year, finishing second in first moto and winning the second. Tomac, the GEICO Honda rider from Cortez, Colo., will drive in the 450 Class next season.
Ken Roczen won the first moto.
