OL Quinn commits to the Sooners

By Bill Hodge

The Oklahoma Sooners have a pledge from Class 2004 offensive linemen J.D. Quinn of Garland, Tex., over offers from TCU, Iowa, Arkansas, Texas Tech and Iowa State.

Donte Brown, a Class 2004 linebacker from McKeesport, Pa., has committed to Penn State over Michigan and Pittsburgh.

Texas Tech has pledged Class 2004 offensive lineman David Chatterton of Longview-Spring Hill, Tex., over interest in TCU, Texas A&M and Colorado.

Wake Forest has pledges from Class 2004 defensive linemen Brandon Drumgoole of Jamestown-Ragsdale, NC; and Jeremy Thompson of Charlotte-Christian, NC.

Despite winning an appeal that validated a letter of intent, Arizona State has released touted defensive back Chijioke Onyenegecha of CC of San Francisco. Called by Sun Devils coach Dirk Koetter, Onyenegecha remained opposed to playing for Arizona State. Onyenegecha's letter was questioned when it was learned that his junior college coach had signed as his guardian, a title he does not have legally, on advice ASU received from the Pac-10. A national letter requires a living parent's signature. Onyenegecha's mother is deceased and his father's whereabouts were unknown in Nigeria. Onyenegecha had hoped to switch to Oklahoma because assistant Ron English left ASU after signing day to be Michigan's secondary coach. A counter appeal may be filed by Onyenegecha in order to not lose a redshirt season by now signing with Oklahoma after the release.
