July 7 Silverstone, Great Britain
Transformed from a wartime airfield, Silverstone is now one of the world's best circuits. Continuously upgraded to meet the latest sporting requirements the Northamptonshire circuit has held the contract to stage the British Grand Prix annually since 1997. Celebrated 50th anniversary last year, with another sell-out 90,000 crowd.
Silverstone hosted the first-ever round of the World Formula One Championship in 1950, two years after it had opened, using the perimeter tracks and runways of the former airfield. Re-shaped, developed considerably under the ownership of the British Racing Drivers Club, it is now a market leader. |
