 Question of the Day
ESPN.com
Check out what some of this year's Indy 500 drivers had to say about our Question of the Day.
What do you expect the pace to be on Sunday?
Alex Barron
Starting Position: 26
"That's a good question. That's the question we will have to find the answer for. It could be anywhere from 218 to 225. That's what they are predicting. When the lap traffic gets in front of you, you drop off quite a bit from the pace. I watched the race from last year again, and it didn't look like it was really easy to overtake until the end of the race. It's 500 miles, you have to make sure you are consistent and not get lapped. Especially where we are starting."

Greg Ray
Starting Position: 31
"Historically, the race pace has been about eight mph slower than the pole, so I'm thinking you can count on anywhere from 218 to 224."
Raul Boesel
Starting Position: 3
"I think you are going to see very fast laps. I think there are going to be teams that are very quick at the beginning and then maybe slow down. We need to look at the wear of the tires. It's been raining so much. It's been a little bit quicker than we'd like for the tires probably in the first 35, 40, 50 laps. Then when the track will get more rubber down, the track will probably be better. You are going to see cars that improve, cars that slow down. It all depends on how you start the race."

Richie Hearn
Starting Position: 22
"It's going to be decent at the beginning, but traffic's always going to be an issue. Obviously if there are cautions it's going to slow things down. I think you have some people that are going to run fast right out of the box -- some rabbits. You've got to get to 500 miles first, so I'm not going to worry about that. I know what we can run, so we'll just run at that pace."
Bruno Junqueira
Starting Position: 1
"I think it's going to be kind of fast. You are going to see the pace be above 220, easy."
George Mack
Starting Position: 32
"It's going to be slow! From what we qualified, you'll see speeds back up 10 mph probably. Probably running 223, maybe some 224s. But it's not going to last because the track is really abrasive. Everybody will use their tires up."
Felipe Giaffone
Starting Position: 4
"Last year, I think the best lap was around 219. We are going about six mph faster than last year, so you are going to see best laps around 224-225. People are going to be about 222, 223 the whole way."

Buddy Lazier
Starting Position: 20
"It could (be fast). As far as how fast a race goes by, it all depends a lot on yellows. You just never know. We could have three or four yellows and it'll blow the average quite a bit. Speeds creep up. They come out with a rule package and we're at a certain speed and each year we go up and then there's a new rule package and each year we go up, so we're obviously at the end of a rules package cycle and we're going as fast as we've been going. I remember in 1994-96, the speeds were quite a bit quicker than now. So I think the speeds are in a good range of racing speed."
Arie Luyendyk
Starting Position: 24
"The competition is really strong. We'll see speeds around 223, 224 on race day at least. Unfortunately we haven't done that much on our race setup. We have a few hours to do that. We pretty much have an idea with our race setup. Our guys are pretty good in the pits."
Jeff Ward
Starting Position: 15
"Last year we thought it was going to be 222-3 and then 219 was the fastest lap, so everybody's thinking we're going to be running 223s and 224s and we're going to be doing 220s."
Jimmer Vasser
Starting Position: 19
"If you want to throw a number on it, it depends on track conditions. Track conditions can have an effect of a couple of mph per lap, so I predict the race speed to start out in the low 220 range or high teens. It depends where you are in the pack. You're going to kind of run the pace of the car in front of you. Obviously the cars out front will have clean air and run quicker right away. As the race goes on and cars fall out of the race, I think the race pace will go up into the 224-225 range."

Sam Hornish Jr.
Starting Position: 7
"Probably around 223-224 should be a good pace."
