Dr. Henry Bock, the Indy Racing League medical director, said Brack remains in satisfactory condition. "I want to thank everyone for their support for (wife) Anita and I the last week," Brack said. "I just didn't know how many friends, fans and racing enthusiasts were out there. It is great to know they are behind me, and I'm anxious to see everyone in the near future." Brack had been in Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas since Oct. 12, the day the former IRL champion and Indianapolis 500 winner was injured during a crash in the series season finale. Brack's car spun into the air after contact with Tomas Scheckter's car in the closing laps of the race at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth. Brack broke his back, thigh and ankles. Scheckter was uninjured. While in the Dallas hospital, Brack had surgery on his back, thigh and ankles. Previous to being transferred, Brack had been visited by Johnny Rutherford and spoke by telephone with Mario Andretti and team owner Bobby Rahal, all former Indy winners. "Johnny was explaining how tough it was to have a broken sternum when he had a crash many years ago," Brack said in a statement released by his team Monday. "He was making me laugh, and that hurt a lot. So he had to stop telling funny stories." |
