CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Tony Stewart on Monday released Bobby Hutchens as director of competition at Stewart-Haas Racing.
Stewart promoted Matt Borland to vice president of competition. Borland has been with Stewart-Haas Racing since its inception as technical director. The move is immediate.
Hutchens held his job since 2009. He left his longtime management role with Richard Childress Racing to join Stewart's organization.
"Bobby played an integral part in building Stewart-Haas Racing into a team that wins races and contends for championships," Stewart said in a statement. "We're grateful for all his hard work and dedication, and I am personally appreciative for the responsibilities he took on Friday through Sunday that allowed me to be just a driver. We wish him nothing but the best."
Stewart-Haas Racing has struggled lately. Stewart and Ryan Newman are both in the top 10 in the points standings, but neither driver have a win.
Stewart has only one top-five finish all season. Newman has one finish better than 14th since Martinsville in early April.
