"When you're dealing with something that's 20 pages long with a lot of big words that I don't really understand, you kind of have to have somebody help me through it," Reutimann said Friday. "I don't know what I'm looking it. It might as well be written in Dutch or something."
Reutimann said it's a multi-year offer to drive a Nextel Cup car for Michael Waltrip Racing, though one that "hinges on a lot of different things."
"Michael and those guys gave me some stuff to look over on the flight here," Reutimann said. "I have to look over it when I get past the race weekend here and see where we stand. It's a contract to drive for him next year. I think it could be a multi-year deal -- it hinges on a lot of things.
"I have a little better idea about my future, just have to get through this weekend and concentrate on that stuff on the trip home Sunday night and Monday morning. I want to get this stuff behind me and find out what's going to happen."
MWR general manager Ty Norris confirmed it is indeed an offer to drive in Nextel Cup.
Reutimann has spoken with Richard Childress Racing about driving for its fourth Nextel Cup team, but no offer has been extended.
His performance this season has been the steadiest of all three Waltrip drivers. The question about his future at MWR was never about lack of performance, rather lack of sponsorship.
"It's a little bit frustrating, but it comes down to the sponsorship and the 44 and the 55 were solid and my deals were all one-year deals," Reutimann said. "Obviously they can't come in there and give you and extension without sponsorship. I understand that.
"They told me all along that it wasn't a question of whether they felt I was doing the job or not. It was a question of having the funds to do it like they needed to do it. I understand that part of the equation. It's interesting. I'm learning. I've never been in this situation. It's not pleasant by any means, but you learn a lot."
