MOHNTON, Pa. -- The 19th annual Lucas Oil Nationals at Maple
Grove Raceway was postponed Saturday due to rain after one round of
qualifying.
The race will continue Saturday, Oct. 4.
One round of professional qualifying was completed Friday and
those runs will count toward the rescheduled event. Qualifying will
continue on Oct. 4 with two professional qualifying sessions. Final
eliminations will begin at 11 a.m. on Oct. 5.
The qualifying leaders for the professional categories are Tony
Schumacher in Top Fuel, Tony Pedregon in Funny Car, Jeg Coughlin in
Pro Stock and Shawn Gann in Pro Stock Bike.
Schumacher can set the national record on the re-run after
having the quickest run in NHRA history,a 4.465-seconds pass. For
the record to be official he has to back it up with a second run.
"We're fortunate to be doing as well as we have been,
especially in the last dozen or so runs," Schumacher said. "We
are very focused on next year and trying to learn as much as we can
about the car so we can compete for the 2004 POWERade championship.
"But you know what? It rained out in Indy two weeks ago and we
came back last week to win the race. So maybe the rainout will
produce similar results. Even if we have to work twice as hard, it
would be worth it if we can come away with another victory."
