Saturday, October 25 Schumacher earns third straight top spot Associated Press LAS VEGAS -- Tony Schumacher earned his third consecutive No. 1 qualifying position in Top Fuel on Saturday during the ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Tony Pedregon, Greg Anderson and Craig Treble also led their respective categories at the $1.6 million race, the 22nd of 23 events in the $50 million NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.
Schumacher has eight career top qualifying honors, four this season. He drove the U.S. Army dragster to a 4.503-second run at 331.45 mph to lead the 16-car qualifying order.
"We have as many No. 1 qualifiers this year as we did in my entire career because we didn't have (crew chief) Alan Johnson before this season,'' Schumacher said. "This car is mean and it drives hard.''
Pedregon earned his seventh No. 1 qualifying effort of the season, 24th of his career. He drove a Ford Mustang to a 4.753 run at 322.88 to lead the Funny Car category.
Anderson, already the 2003 Pro Stock champion, held on to earn his 13th top qualifier of the season and 16th of his career. He drove his Grand Am to a track record run of 6.866 at 200.44.
Treble went to the top of the Pro Stock Bike ladder with a 7.246 at 186.61 on a Suzuki.
Final eliminations start at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
