BARCELONA, Spain -- Formula One team HRT has signed Italian driver Tonio Liuzzi to race this season.
Liuzzi was named the second driver to teammate Narain Karthikeyan of India on Wednesday.
Liuzzi has been racing in F1 since his debut for Red Bull in 2005, with stints at Toro Rosso and Force India, where he's raced since the end of the 2008 season.
Liuzzi says he is "excited" by the opportunity and that he "never lost hope to be in Formula One."
HRT finished last out of 11 teams in the championship last season without a point. Liuzzi was 15th overall with a career-best 21 points last season.
