Saturday, February 10 All-Dodge front row at Daytona ESPN.com news services DAYTONA BEACH, Fla -- Jerry Nadeau was disqualified from his front row starting position for the Feb. 18 Daytona 500 after NASCAR technical inspectors discovered an unapproved shock absorber and spring shackle in a post-qualifying tear down. That means Nadeau's speed of 182.763 mph has been disallowed and it moves Dodge driver Stacy Compton into the front row for next Sunday's race. Bill Elliott won the pole Saturday when the two-time Daytona 500 champion drove his Dodge Intrepid to a lap at 183.565 mph. Elliott and Compton are the only drivers locked in their starting positions for the Daytona 500. The rest of Saturday's qualifiers will line up in Thursday's Gatorade 125-Mile Qualifying Races. The top 15 drivers in each of the two races advance into the Daytona 500 with the rest of the field determined by time-trial speeds. Following Compton were defending champion Dale Jarrett at 182.622 mph in a Ford and Tony Stewart at 182.534 mph in a Pontiac. |
