Jeff Burton
Struggled early last year, but showed
good form in this race, NASCAR's longest, where he led 126 laps en
route to the checkered flag; took lead for good on lap 338 and never
looked back; posted one top-five and five top-10s this season,
good for ninth in the points standings after 11 points races.
Dale Earnhardt Jr.
The 186.034 miles per hour in the 2000
qualifying run still stands as a track record; finished fourth
that year; those were results he could not match in 2001 when
he started 19th and finished 25th; made his Winston Cup debut
in the 1999 Coca-Cola 600, qualifying eighth and finishing 16th;
recorded three top-five finishes in the past five races, but
two non-finishes caused him to drop in points to 12th.
Jeff Gordon
His seven poles and four wins at Lowe's Motor
Speedway are the most among active drivers; last year entered
this race off a win in The Winston at Lowe's, but was 11th
last week; at this point last year was second in the Winston
Cup Standings before becoming the third driver ever with four
titles. This year, Gordon has to deal with a divorce and is sixth
in the points standings, 216 points behind leader Sterling Marlin.
Dale Jarrett
Last year's points leader before being surpassed
by Jeff Gordon and finishing fifth; is 15th this year with one top
5 finish and four top 10s; last week was one of four drivers to
crash out during the first segment of The Winston; won the
Coca-Cola 600 in 1996; fifth three straight years before
finishing eighth in 2001.
Jimmie Johnson
Driver of the Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse
Chevrolet; made Winston Cup debut here last year with 15th place
qualifying run and finished 39th; got first career Winston Cup
victory at California Speedway and also has two Bud Pole positions
at Daytona and Talladega; is 10th in the overall miles lead with
154.28 laps; is leading the Raybestos Rookie of the Year competition
by 17 points.

Matt Kenseth
Lowe's Motor Speedway was the site of his first
career Winston Cup victory at the 2000 Coca-Cola 600; went 60 races
without winning until the Subway 400 at North Carolina Speedway on
February 25 when he trailed both Sterling Marlin and Bobby Labonte
with six laps to go; edged Dale Earnhardt Jr. for Winston Cup Rookie
of the Year Award in 2000, but has not experienced as much success
since.
Bobby Labonte
First career Winston Cup victory came at the
Coca-Cola 600 in 1995; knows his way around the 1 1/2-mile
speedway, having finished fifth last year after back-to-back
second-place finishes and a third in 1998; has finished in the top
10 in nine of the last 10 races at Charlotte; was 13th after
qualifying at The Winston last week, but bumped into Jeremy
Mayfield's Dodge with 10 laps remaining in the second segment.
Tony Stewart
Eighth in the Winston Cup Standings with 1,394 points;
first on the lap leaders list with 495; second on the miles leaders
list with 506.68; one of three drivers among the top 10 points leaders
with two wins this year; sponsored by The Home Depot, the leading
competitor of Lowe's; finished sixth at The Winston last week, four
slots lower than last year.
Rusty Wallace
A two-time winner in Charlotte, including the
Coca-Cola 600 in 1990; fifth on the Winston Cup Points standings
with 1,442, just 10 points behind Mark Martin; tied with Lee
Petty for seventh on the all-time list with 54 career wins, but
none this year; has at least one win in 16 consecutive years, tying
Ricky Rudd for the modern-era record; finished 14th here last year.
