The United States Figure Skating Association (USFSA) announced that Colorado Springs will host Skate America 2000 for the second straight season at the Colorado Springs World Arena, October 26-29, 2000. Last October, Colorado Springs hosted the successful Skate America '99, marking the return of World-class figure skating to the Pikes Peak region after a five-year absence. The event, which featured World champions Michelle Kwan (USA) and Alexei Yagudin (RUS) attracted over 19,000 fans during the two days of competition.

Michelle Kwan is a four-time national champion.

Skate America 2000 will be conducted over three days culminating with the men's free skate final and Exhibition of Champions on Sunday afternoon. A complete list of athletes will be announced in July.

"We are very pleased that Skate America will again be in Colorado Springs this year," said John LeFevre, USFSA Executive Director. "Skate America is the traditional start of each new season and we look forward to another exciting and successful competition by the top figure skaters in the world."

Skate America is the premier international event conducted annually by the USFSA. It features many of the top Olympic-eligible figure skaters in the World, competing in ladies' and men's singles, pairs and ice dancing. Skate America 2000 is the first of six events in the 2000 International Skating Union (ISU) Grand Prix series which includes Skate Canada, Nations Cup (Germany), Trophee Lalique (France), Cup of Russia and the NHK Trophy (Japan).

Colorado Springs has served as the host to many international figure skating events including five World Championships, six U.S. Championships and three World Junior Championships. The city last hosted the World Junior Championships in 1994 at the Broadmoor World Arena.
