2000 Hershey's Kisses figure skating challenge to feature eight World Champions

 ABC Online News Services

The Hershey's Kisses Figure Skating Challenge will feature an impressive lineup of world-class figure skaters including a total of eight World champions including the reigning U.S. and World champion Michelle Kwan. The event will be held at the Palace in Auburn Hills, Mich., Dec. 10 at 3 p.m.

The Hershey's Kisses Figure Skating Challenge will feature a 'USA vs. World' team concept, consisting of a series of head-to-head match-ups between skaters representing Team USA and the World Team in ladies' and men's events. One interpretive free skate will be performed with two points being awarded for first place and one point for second place. The team accumulating the most points will be named the winner. Individual match-ups will be determined prior to the competition.

Joining Kwan on the U.S. team is 1996 World champion Todd Eldredge; 1992 World & Olympic champion Kristi Yamaguchi; two-time U.S. champion and World bronze medalist Michael Weiss; 2000 U.S. silver medalist Timothy Goebel; 2000 U.S. bronze medalist Sarah Hughes and 2000 U.S. silver medalist Sasha Cohen.

The World team features five former World champions including four-time winner Kurt Browning of Canada. Browning will be joined on the team by fellow Canadian World champion Brian Orser (1987). The World team ladies will be led by 1999 World champion Maria Butyrskaya of Russia, 1994 World champion Yuka Sato of Japan and 2000 World silver medalist Irina Slutskaya of Russia. Also competing for the world team is three-time World silver medalist Surya Bonaly of France.
