SALT LAKE CITY – Todd Eldredge, who withdrew from the Four Continents championships because of a jammed left ankle, has a bruised bone and a cyst in a joint below the ankle.

After leading through the short program, Todd Eldredge was forced to drop out of the Four Continents with a jammed right ankle.
Eldredge, the 1996 world champion, won't compete at next weekend's Grand Prix finals in Tokyo. A U.S. Skating spokesman said Eldredge hopes to return for the World Figure Skating Championships next month in Vancouver.

The injury was revealed Saturday through X-rays. Eldredge was hurt in practice Wednesday, but overcame it to win the short program that night. He aggravated the ankle during practice Friday morning.

After completing warmups just before the free skate, Eldredge decided not to continue.

"I never had a chance to give it enough rest to get better," he said Friday night. "It's a new injury, same ankle that I've hurt before, but a completely different injury."
