Judge dismisses lawsuit against Oklahoma

Associated Press

OKLAHOMA CITY -- A federal judge has dismissed the University of Oklahoma from a federal lawsuit a former soccer player filed against former coach Bettina Fletcher and two of her assistants.

Kathleen Peay of Richardson, Texas, alleged in her lawsuit that she was physically, emotionally and sexually exploited during the 1997 and 1998 seasons.

Russell Mulinix of Oklahoma City, Peay's attorney, said he plans to file an amended lawsuit against the university, Fletcher and assistant coach Missy Durham. Former assistant coach Randall Robison did not file a motion to dismiss.

U.S. District Judge David L. Russell dismissed the cases Tuesday and said the plaintiffs had 10 days to refile the claims.

The alleged activities included an initiation ritual where team members were forced to wear diapers and simulate sex acts.

Peay also alleges players were subjected to physical abuse, including punching and grabbing of players by coaches, and that alcohol abuse and misuse was encouraged by coaches.
