Tirol appeal upheld

[Reuters]

NYON, Switzerland -- Lokomotiv Moscow have been ordered to replay their Champions League match against FC Tirol, UEFA said on Friday after upholding an appeal by the Austrian club.

Lokomotiv, who won the second leg contest 1-0 and the third qualifying round 4-1 on aggregate has until Monday to submit a counter-appeal, said European soccer's governing body.

No date or location for the replay has been fixed.

Immediately following Wednesday's loss Tirol officials lodged an appeal with UEFA claiming that Dutch referee Mario van der Ende had mistakenly shown a yellow card to the wrong player.

Tirol successfully argued that video replays of the match clearly showed that the referee in the 72nd minute flashed the yellow card to Lokomotiv's Vladimir Maminov instead of Rouslan Pimenov, who had committed the foul and should have been sent off for what was his second offence.

The Austrian club claims that the mistake allowed Lokomotiv to play the final 20 minutes of the match with 11 men instead of 10.

The winner of the replay will be in group A of the Champions League with Real Madrid, AS Roma and Belgian side Anderlecht.
