Americans to debut new uniforms March 2
[Associated Press]
CHICAGO -- Goalkeeper Kasey Keller, trying to regain the
starting job, was among three European-based players picked for the
U.S. roster for next month's exhibition games against Honduras and
Ecuador.
Keller, who played in the CONCACAF Gold Cup, has not been used
much this season by Tottenham Hotspur in England and has fallen
behind Brad Friedel.
The only other European-based players selected for the 20-man
roster were Crystal Palace defender Gregg Berhalter and Fulham
midfielder Eddie Lewis.
Also on the roster are defender Eddie Pope, who is coming off
knee surgery, and forward Brian McBride, who missed last week's 1-0
loss at Italy to get married.
New uniforms that will be used at the World Cup will be worn for
the first time during the game against Honduras on March 2 at
Seattle. The Americans play Ecuador on March 10 at Birmingham, Ala.
The United States has had the bulk of its roster together only
once this year, for last week's game at Catania, Sicily. The
Americans, preparing for the World Cup, expect to have most of
their players together for exhibition games at Germany on March 27
and at Ireland on April 17, and then for home exhibition games in
May.
