Jackson joins up with Exeter City of third division

[Reuters]

LONDON -- Michael Jackson has been made an honorary director of third division Exeter City, the singer's friend and co-chairman Uri Geller said on Wednesday.

The American pop superstar, not known for his interest in football, fell in love with the club during a fund-raising charity trip last month.

"When I asked him what does he know about football he said 'absolutely nothing but I love Exeter City,'" said Geller, an Israeli psychic best known for bending spoons.

Jackson delighted thousands of fans with his visit to the southwest English city. He did not sing at the event but did sport an Exeter City football shirt.

"We did this out of respect," Geller told Reuters. "He put Exeter City on the international map."

The pop star is now entitled to play a full part in the club's boardroom, including voting on key decisions about players, though Geller did not expect Jackson to make regular appearances.

He will also enjoy free admission to any games he may want to attend and will be able to travel to away matches with the players on the club coach.
