WASHINGTON -- The U.S. national team is bringing back veterans of the 1990s for the Major League Soccer All-Star game on Aug. 3.

Ten of the 18 players selected Tuesday by U.S. coach Bruce Arena were on the 22-man roster for the 1998 World Cup, where the Americans finished last, and some were on the rosters for the 1990 and 1994 tournaments, including former U.S. captain John Harkes.

Arena's roster includes 10 players from this year's team, which advanced to the quarterfinals before losing to Germany, but none of the European-based players on the World Cup roster.

``We are proud to acknowledge the players of MLS who have made such great strides in establishing the league,'' Arena said.

Midfielder Chris Henderson was on the 1990 roster. Harkes, a midfielder, and goalkeeper Tony Meola were on the 1990 and 1994 rosters.

Goalkeeper Juergen Sommer, defenders Mike Burns and Alexi Lalas, and midfielder Cobi Jones were on the 1994 and 1998 rosters. Defenders Jeff Agoos and Eddie Pope; midfielders Chad Deering, Brian Maisonneuve and Preki Radosavljevic; and forward Brian McBride were on the 1998 roster.
