Maskaev rumored to be in line for Klitschko

Heavyweight contender Oleg Maskaev (31-5, 25 KOs) kept his dream of a heavyweight title shot later this year alive with an easy third-round stoppage of late substitute Livin Castillo (10-3, 7 KOs) on Friday in a scheduled 10-rounder at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City.

The power of Maskaev proved to be too much for the Ecuadorian, who rose from a third-round stoppage only to have the bout halted by the referee.

The 36-year-old Maskaev, who has won nine in a row over journeyman-level competition since a 2002 TKO loss to Corey Sanders, is rumored to be in line for a fall shot at WBC champion Vitali Klitschko, who is currently recovering from back surgery.

In the co-feature, Charles Cavallo improved to 5-0 (1 KO) with a six-round decision win over William Gill (2-4, 1 KO) in a cruiserweight contest.
