Sam Querrey topples Steve Johnson

ATLANTA -- Sam Querrey beat hometown buddy Steve Johnson 7-6 (3), 7-5 to open the BB&T Atlanta Open on Monday.

Fellow American Donald Young lost in straight sets to Israel's Dudi Sela 6-3, 6-0. Young lives about 1,000 yards from the court.

The top five ranked American men are in the BB&T field.

Defending champion John Isner (ranked No. 12 in the world) had a bye Monday as the No. 1 seed, and No. 72 Jack Sock also had the day off.
