For the first time in his career, undefeated middleweight titleholder Gennady Golovkin will defend his belt in the big arena at the legendary Madison Square Garden in New York against David Geale.

When his agreement to fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. fell through, Golovkin (29-0, 26 KOs) was left to defend his title against mandatory challenger Jarrod Fletcher. However, Golovkin requested an exception to face Geale, a former titlist, and it was granted.
