Sharapova puts loss in perspective
NEW YORK -- Maria Sharapova lost a little tennis match on Saturday.
Two months after winning Wimbledon -- tennis' grandest title -- the 17-year-old Sharapova fell in the third round of the U.S. Open to Mary Pierce 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Many people wondered if Sharapova might rule the U.S. Open as she ruled Wimbledon. But she struggled in all three of her matches at Flushing Meadows, and exited earlier than many people expected.
