Anna Meares not retiring, eyes Rio

SYDNEY -- Olympic cycling gold medalist Anna Meares of Australia plans to compete at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro.

She made the announcement after winning her second Sir Hubert Opperman award as Australian cyclist of the year Friday.

Meares has not trained seriously since London, where she beat British rival Victoria Pendleton to win the sprint gold medal. Meares also combined with Kaarle McCulloch to win bronze in the team sprint at London. She won a gold medal at the 2004 Athens ...
