Sabine Lisicki advances in Japan

OSAKA, Japan -- Wimbledon finalist Sabine Lisicki of Germany beat Chanelle Scheepers of South Africa 7-5, 7-6 (1) to reach the second round of the Japan Open on Tuesday.

The second-seeded Lisicki struggled with a right wrist injury after making her first Grand Slam singles final and has yet to win more than two matches in a row since then. She is the highest seeded player in the draw after No. 1-seeded Jelena Jankovic pulled out because of an injured left hip.
