Tennessee beats Texas for softball title

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Kirsten Honeycutt hit the go-ahead RBI
single in the top of the sixth inning to lead the South Team from
Morristown, Tenn., to a 3-2 victory over the Southwest Team from
Elgin, Texas, in the championship game of the Little League
Softball World Series.

Mallory Black allowed two runs on five hits and struck out six
at the Alpenrose Dairy in Portland on Wednesday night. Her father,
Eric Black, coaches the Morristown team.

"There's no way we could have done it without our defense,"
Mallory Black said.

Morristown's Britney Turner hit a run-scoring single with two
out in the first inning, then added a two-out RBI double in the

Kaci Olson tied it in the bottom of the first for Elgin when she
scored from third on an error. Morgan Schultz added an RBI single
in the third to tie it at 2-2.

Honeycutt's game winning single came with one out and the bases
loaded in the sixth.

Alyssa Wilkins allowed three runs on nine hits with three
strikeouts in the loss.

Both teams were knocked out in the semifinals last year. Elgin
defeated Gladstone, Mich., 6-1 on Tuesday to advance.

Morristown beat Waterford, Conn., 10-1.
