Man United wipes out City lead
LONDON -- Manchester United wiped out Manchester City's lead at the top of the Premier League, beating Stoke 2-0 as its neighbor lost 1-0 at Everton with the help of another Landon Donovan assist.
Darron Gibson, who left Old Trafford in January, scored in the 60th minute off a short pass from Donovan. The American midfielder has assisted on Everton's last three goals and four in seven games during his loan from Major League Soccer's Los Angeles Galaxy.
United won 2-0 at home on penalty kicks by Javier Hernandez in the 38th minute and Dimitar Berbatov in the 53rd.
City and United are both 17-3-3 with 54 points, with City ahead on goal difference.
Third-place Tottenham (15-4-4) beat Wigan 3-1, moving seven points ahead of Chelsea (12-5-6) which was held to a 1-1 tie at Swansea.
Liverpool (10-5-8) climbed above Arsenal (11-8-3) into fifth place with a 3-0 win at Wolverhampton.
