Tunisia asks to wear black armbands
BONGOVILLE, Gabon -- Tunisia's players have asked permission to wear black armbands at their African Cup of Nations quarterfinal in honor of those who died in the soccer violence in Egypt.
Tunisian Football Federation president Anouar Haddad says the players want to express their "brotherly" ties with Egypt during Sunday's game against Ghana.
Haddad says he has not yet received a reply from tournament organizers but expects the request to be considered at a meeting Saturday. Organizers have said a minute's silence will be observed ahead of all four quarterfinals.
More than 70 people died at Wednesday's game in Egypt's Mediterranean city of Port Said.
