Abby Wambach

Abby Wambach currently holds one of the best goals per game ratio in United States history with over 120 goals scored in international competition. At 5'11', she is considered one of the world's best aerial players in the world.

She played in her first World Cup in 2003, starting five games and scoring the game-winning goal in the U.S.' 1-0 win over Norway in the quarterfinals. She scored six goals in the 2007 World Cup to lead the United States. And in the 2011 World Cup, Wambach started slowly but scored in four straight matches for the U.S., heading home a late goal to send the quarterfinal with Brazil to penalties, where the U.S. advanced. She also scored in the semis and in the final, when Japan topped the Americans in another penalty shootout to claim the title.

Wambach broke her leg in July 2008 vs. Brazil, in the United States' final warm-up game before the 2008 Olympics and missed the tournament. She returned to the national team in 2009 and netted her 100th career goal in her hometown of Rochester, NY in a 1-0 win over Canada, nearly one year to the day after her injury. She became the ninth player in the world and fifth American player to score 100 career international goals. Internationally, she has finished as high as fourth twice for FIFA World Player of the Year.

The second player taken in the 2002 Women's United Soccer Association by the Washington Freedom, Wambach scored 23 goals in two seasons, leading the Freedom to the title in 2003 before the league folded. She returned to the Freedom when Women's Professional Soccer arrived in 2009 and has consistently been among the top scorers in the league as well as a two-time All Star.

Wambach played four years for Florida and holds school records with 96 goals and 49 assists. She won the NCAA title in 1999 with Florida.
