VANCOUVER -- Top seed Marion Bartoli of France had little trouble with Italy's Adriana Serra Zanetti, winning 6-0, 6-1 in the first round of the Vancouver Women's Open on Tuesday night.

In other matches: No. 3 Alina Jidkova of Argentina beat countrywoman Vanina Garcia Sokol 5-7, 7-5, 6-1; No. 5 Marissa Irvin easily handled fellow American Meilen Tu 6-1, 6-1; and No. 8 Lindsay Lee-Waters of the U.S. beat Lioudmila Skavronskaia of Russia 6-3, 6-4.

Qualifier Nicole Vaidisova of the Czech Republic upset Abigail Spears of the United States 6-4, 6-4; and qualifier Sesil Karatantcheva of Bulgaria defeated Yuka Yoshida, Japan, 6-2, 6-3.

Toronto's Maureen Drake was defeated in straight sets by Bethanie Mattek of the United States, 7-5, 6-2.
