WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Former world No. 6 Chanda Rubin is one of eight American women awarded wild-card entries into the U.S. Open in New York at the end of the month,
organizers announced on Wednesday.
The 29-year-old American, a winner of seven WTA singles
titles, has played an abbreviated schedule since last year's
tournament due to a nagging knee injury that required surgery
Currently ranked 204th, Rubin has often represented the
United States in Fed Cup play and was a member of the U.S.
Olympic team in 1996 and 2004.
Promising 20-year-old Ashley Harkleroad will also head to
