Kremer upsets Kirilenko at Budapest Grand Prix

BUDAPEST, Hungary -- Anne Kremer of Luxembourg upset third-seeded Maria Kirilenko of Russia 6-3, 6-4 on Tuesday in the first round of the Budapest Grand Prix.

Kremer, ranked 100th, won for the first time against Kirilenko, who is ranked 38th.

The match between top-seeded Tathiana Garbin of Italy and Nuria Llagostera Vives of Spain was interrupted because of rain and will be continued Wednesday.

Llagostera Vives won the first set 6-3 and Garbin took the second 6-4. Rain halted play after one point in the third set. The court was declared fit for play after an hour delay, but the players decided to resume their match the next day.

In other results, Sorana Cirstea of Romania beat Hungary's Kyra Nagy 7-6 (2), 3-6, 6-3; Olga Savchuk of Ukraine defeated Lucie Hradecka of the Czech Republic 6-0, 6-3; and Kristina Barrois of Germany downed Iveta Benesova of the Czech Republic 7-6 (6), 5-7, 7-6 (5).

Other winners included Croatia's Karolina Sprem, Slovakia's Martina Sucha and Slovenia's Andreja Klepac.
