LINZ, Austria -- Third-seeded Marion Bartoli beat teen
Tamira Paszek 6-2, 6-1 on Thursday to reach the quarterfinals of the
Bartoli joined Daniela Hantuchova, Julia Vakulenko, Nicole
Vaidisova, Alona Bondarenko and Patty Schnyder in the
Bartoli trailed 2-1 before winning 10 straight games against the
16-year-old, losing only one point on serve in the first set.
Bartoli was broken at 5-0 in the second set but broke back
immediately to complete the victory.
Bartoli will next play Vakulenko, who saved 10 of 11 break
points to defeat Ai Sugiyama 6-0, 6-2.
Earlier Thursday, the second-seeded Hantuchova beat Gisela Dulko
An early break was enough for the 10th-ranked Slovakian to win
the first set. In the second, Hantuchova broke three times and
dropped only two points on her serve to close out the match.
Hantuchova will meet Alona Bondarenko, who beat Eleni Daniilidou
6-4, 6-3. The fifth-seeded Vaidisova, who beat Yvonne Meusburger
6-3, 6-1, will play fourth-seeded Dinara Safina on Friday.
"I kept my concentration well and that's why I didn't get in
trouble against Yvonne," Vaidisova said.
The sixth-seeded Schnyder, a 2005 Linz finalist, defeated Alicia
Molik 6-4, 6-4.
Schnyder broke Molik once in each set but failed to convert
seven other break chances against the Australian qualifier.
Schnyder next takes on top-seeded Anna Chakvetadze.
